Should You Use MMA Shorts and Compression Shorts Together?

September 02, 2019

Did you know that there are quite a few fighters out there who wear their MMA or kickboxing shorts over compression shorts? Those who are just getting into the combat sports might not realize why they do this, and they may wonder if it’s even a good idea or something that they need to do. While this is not a practice that everyone who starts training will need or want to follow, it does actually have some benefits that you will at least want to consider.

The Best of Both Worlds

When you are wearing compression shorts beneath the MMA shorts, they can provide you with benefits of both. The MMA shorts are designed so that they will stay on even when you are rolling around on the mat and fighting. They are durable, flexible, and they are comfortable. They also have quite a few different styles from which you can choose. Additionally, most will have slits on the side of the leg to make it possible for you to kick. They are designed for grappling.

However, they might not always provide you with the full protection that you want and need. When you choose to wear the compression shorts beneath the shorts, as well, you will find a host of other benefits that you can enjoy. They will help to keep the muscles warmer, which can help to reduce the risk of injury. In addition, many who wear the compression clothing find that they have increased circulation, which can help with recovery. They are also helpful for reducing the risk of skin rashes and friction from the mats.

Now that you see the benefits that they can provide separately, imagine having all of those benefits each time you head out to the mats. You can use the compression with board-style MMA shorts, kickboxing shorts, and Muay Thai shorts easily.

Choosing What You Need

When you are choosing your shorts, you need to double your due diligence since you will be buying two different types, of course. Make sure that you are choosing the right sizes for each, and that they are styles and colors that will go well together. You want to be sure that you are buying shorts that are highly durable and that are built to last. After all, they will be dealing with some rough work when you are wearing them out on the mats, even if you are just using them for training sessions.

Of course, you will also need to consider the price. You want to be sure that you are buying high-quality, so that means you should stay away from the “bargain” options out there that aren’t going to last. Get durable shorts that have a good, fair price, and that has a style you enjoy.
